Three key adjectives: Determined, self-sacrificial, earnest

Influential Events:
”You too, young man, can become a hero.”
Izuku Midoryia grew up obsessed with being a hero like his idol, All Might. He was inspired by how All Might saved everyone with a genuine smile on his face and brought hope to people. Unfortunately, Izuku doesn’t have any superpowers. The revelation was devastating but never stopped wanting to be a hero, even if no one else believed he could. Izuku is reserved, nerdy, and prone to anxiety and nervousness, but despite all that, he harbors a determined spirit.

He studies heroes and practices developing strategies, determined to get into the best hero school in Japan, U.A. High school. His classmates mock him, especially his talented (former) childhood friend Bakugo, for his desire to be a hero. Sometimes it makes him feel hopeless but in response, he just decides to try even harder.

One day, Izuku actually meets All Might and learns that he losing his power. Izuku asks All Might if he can become a hero despite being Quirkless and is dismissed. Izuku is heartbroken and wonders if he’d been lying to himself all along.

Then Izuku encounters a horrible scene: a villain has taken a kid hostage and the Pro Heroes are unable to to help. Izuku watches, feeling useless, until noticing the hostage is Bakugo. Without thinking, Izuku charges in to save him. He knows that he will likely be killed too but he can’t watch someone, even a bully, die without trying to help, it's just not who he is. He uses some of his strategies to distract the villain and inspires All Might to intervene.

Later, Izuku apologizes to All Might, writing himself off as a nuisance, but All Might tells him that his willingness to sacrifice himself to save someone proves that he can be a great hero. Izuku breaks down, grateful to finally have external affirmation for his dreams. Then All Might gives Izuku his Quirk: One for All.

Smash!
Izuku trains for a year with All Might to prepare himself for the U.A. Entrance exam and for his body to be able to handle One for All but receives it the day of the exam and has no idea how to use it. He tries desperately to score points but can’t figure out how to activate OFA. He berates himself, thinking maybe he wasn’t cut out for this and that All Might made a mistake in choosing him.

Then he sees a girl stuck in rubble, about to be crushed. Izuku forgets all of his anxieties and turns around to save her, even though he knows he’ll be endangering himself and will fail the exam. However, it doesn't matter, his determination to do what he believes is right overrides everything else. His Quirk activates and he takes down the robot, but is badly injured. He leaves the exam certain he failed, but knowing he did the right thing and decides he will find a way to be a hero without attending U.A.

Thankfully, his heroic instincts are rewarded when he is accepted into U.A. based on hidden “rescue points”. This affirms that his desire to help people, regardless of the situation, is validated and he is worthy of All Might’s power.

”It’s your Quirk, not his!”
Izuku works hard at U.A. High, but struggles with control over his power. However, he’s used to being behind and it only makes him even more determined than ever to show people what he’s capable of. This opportunity arrives at the U.A. Sports Festival, where students compete against each other to show off their skills. Through clever strategy, Izuku is able to win the first stage of the competition without using his power and damaging himself and the crowd takes note of his ingenuity.

At the next part of the festival, he faces off against Shouto Todoroki. Todoroki has a powerful quirk but only uses half as a way to refuse the influence of his father, the Number 2 Hero, Endeavor. Izuku is horrified at Todoroki’s backstory, but still earnestly declares that he will win to make everyone who has helped him proud.

As Izuku and Todoroki face off, Izuku becomes deeply frustrated at Torodoki’s refusal to use his full power. Izuku struggled so hard to get where he was and it is infuriating to see Todoroki stand there and not give it his all while Izuku is shattering his bones to win. But he also sees sadness in Todoroki and Izuku becomes invested in breaking Torodoki’s walls and reminds him of his own reasons to be a hero. Izuku’s reasons are everything to him and he wants other people remember in earnest why they are here, trying to be heroes. Torodoki finally accepts his Quirk and uses his full power and Izuku grins, proud that he was able to get through to his classmate.

Izuku loses, badly, and is left with a disfigured hand as a result of the match. He admits that he was so frustrated by Todoroki that he lost sight of winning and is afraid All Might is disappointed in him. Instead All Might tells him that his ability to help and inspire Todoroki, even at great cost to himself, is a sign of a great hero. Izuku is reassured that, despite his loss, his earnest ways are an asset and not a hindrance.

”I’ll stop you! Because that’s what heroes do!”
As summer arrives, Izuku has improved his skills and he goes to summer camp to train. There, Izuku meets a young boy named Kouta, who hates heroes. Izuku, unable to avoid meddling, spends a lot of time trying to earnestly connect with Kouta.

A few days into the camp, villains attack and Izuku faces down an extremely powerful villain called Muscular to protect Kouta. Izuku is completely outmatched but refuses to let any harm come to Kouta because a hero would protect him no matter what. Izuku’s sincere concern for his well being, even though they are essentially strangers, brings Kouta to tears and his determination to protect Kouta no matter the cost to himself makes Kouta finally understand why heroes matter. Subsequently, after the incident Izuku is nearly forced to leave U.A. by his mother, who is concerned for his well being, but Izuku shows her a thank you letter from Kouta as proof that he is born to become a hero and that he will never stop trying to become one.

Izuku is nearly killed while fighting Muscular and destroys both of his arms using One for All at 100% in a fit of hysterical strength. Later, he learns if he does serious damage to his arms again, they will be unusable, and must admit to being selfish and not considering how injuring himself causes pain for the people around him, especially his mother. His tendency towards self-sacrifice, while noble, is also born out of a desire to be useful to people and pushes him to an edge where he ignores the pain he’s in and just keeps going to further extremes.

Bakugo is kidnapped by the villains just as Izuku tries to leap and save him at the last minute. He had fought harder than ever before, shattered his body, never stopped fighting despite terrible pain, but it wasn’t enough. Learning that his best wasn’t enough devastates Izuku.

”Now, it’s your turn.”
In order to make up for what his past "failure", Izuku is determined to save Bakugo, despite the poor state of their relationship. Many of his classmates tell him not to disobey the rules and risk his life, but Izuku ignores their concerns. Despite his mild-mannered nature, Izuku will act on what he sincerely believes to be right, regardless of rules or consequences. Because he is so determined to do what he thinks he should do, instead of what he is told to do, he is (somewhat affectionately) labeled a “problem child” by his teacher.

Knowing he and his classmates are taking a risk by trying to rescue Bakugo, Izuku creates a clever way to save him without engaging in any fights or technically breaking any rules. Across the city, All Might encounters his old foe, All For One and defeats him with the last of his power.

When Izuku learns of this, he feels completely overwhelmed at the idea that he is All Might’s successor and that villains have their eyes on him and that the world will have expectations for him as the next Symbol of Peace. He knew it would happen eventually but never like this. In that moment, the weight that comes with inheriting One For All is finally apparent to him. Later, All Might praises him and tells Izuku that he will focus his full energy on training him which reassures Izuku that he can become a worthy successor.

”You really did twist the future.”
As Izuku progresses as a hero, he takes on an internship with the top student in the school, Mirio, and All Might’s former sidekick, Nighteye. Nighteye reveals that he knows about One for All and was against Izuku being chosen and believes Mirio should have been picked instead.

This deals quite the blow to Izuku’s self-esteem and he starts to struggle in school because he’s so consumed by the idea that he wasn’t the first choice for One for All. He never knew that All Might had other options in mind and tied much of his self-esteem to the belief that he was the perfect person to inherit the Quirk. The stress overwhelms him so much that he breaks down and yells at All Might in frustration for keeping him in the dark. However, All Might reassures him that he knows he made the right choice and Izuku decides he will prove it to Nighteye.

Izuku agrees to go on a dangerous rescue mission despite Nighteye’s prediction that they both will die. Nighteye is mortally wounded and Mirio is rendered Quirkless. However, Izuku refuses to admit defeat and decides he'll fight for a future that he wants to see, regardless of any prediction. His earnest desire to rescue their target, a young girl, inspires her to give him her power and they manage to defeat the villain.

Nighteye passes away but acknowledges Izuku as a worthy successor. Izuku is grateful but unsure in the face of Mirio losing his powers and offers him One for All. But Mirio refuses and assures Izuku that he did great as a hero. It’s the first time Izuku has dealt with such losses but that reassurance pushes Izuku to keep getting stronger, so he can prevent this from happening again.

”As long as you work hard, you can accomplish anything!”
Izuku continues to grow his confidence as he grows his skills. During an exercise where they face off against another class, Izuku thinks he has overcome his apprehension over his powers and eagerly declares that he will win.

However, black whips suddenly appear out of his body and attack his friends outside of his control. Izuku is instantly fearful of losing all of his progress and despairs at the prospect of suffering a setback. The power belongs to a previous user of One for All, which not only contains past user’s wills but their Quirks too. Izuku chooses to let his fears of backsliding go and embraces his wild new power, deciding he will make it an ally on his journey. His courage allows him to pull off an impressive win with his new quirk, Black Whip.

Going forward, Izuku has to deal with a lot more unknowns after thinking he’d finally mastered One for All, but he knows that if he remembers his origin and his earnest desire to be a hero, he will always find the strength to continue.

Chosen path: Bard
3 Abilities: 1. Canon Power: One for All. One for All is a stockpiling quirk that increases in power as it is passed from user to user. Izuku is the ninth user of One for All and it enhances his agility and strength to superhuman levels. Currently, he can only use 20% of his power, any more and it begins to cause him great pain and will literally shatter the bones in his body at higher levels.

Izuku also has more Quirks within One for All. However, the only one that is currently known is "Black Whip" where he can release long tendrils from his body to grab and pull things. He only used it once and doesn't know how to activate it again, describing it as "being locked away" but for the sake of transparency it felt important to mention.

To nerf his power, I tried to do some research on what real people can lift. In the category of boys 13-17, weighing at around 140, he would roughly be at real "elite level lifts" if he could deadlift and squat 3x and bench 2x his body weight. The high school track record for a mile is 3 Minutes 53 seconds and the long+high jump records are roughly 8 feet. Of course, they only need to do these things once but in a fight, you have to keep using your abilities. So perhaps Deku could sustain the lifts/consecutive jumps for a minute or so with increases enough in his speed that he can dodge a little faster than a normal human. Afterwards, he needs to rest for a bit.

2. Bardic Inspiration

3. Prodigy

Why this path?: I picked a bard for Izuku because wants to be someone who inspires others when he saves them and it’s mentioned in canon that many of his classmates find his drive inspiring as they also grow as heroes. I think it’s also interesting because when he’s in a fight, Izuku can be very charismatic and shows off his strong will. But he’s awkward and a little timid in normal situations so I think putting him down a path that demands charisma that won’t always be during a fight would be very interesting.

NOTE: If accepted, I hope it's not overstepping to ask if it possible to request a specific roommate? Izuku has a messy relationship with another character in the game, Katuski Bakugo, so Blake (Bakugo's player) and I thought it might be funny if they ended up as roommates! However, I understand if there can't be any housing requests! Thank you!
